A plain-English guide

How much does a small business website cost?

Straight answer: with us, £500 for a tidy few-page site, £1,000 for most businesses and £1,500 and up for a shop or a bigger build. One-off, and you own it. Here's what changes the price, and what you'll pay once it's live.

What pushes the price up

  • How many pages

Each page has to be designed, written and tested on a phone. A five-page site and a twenty-page site are different jobs, which is why the tiers start with a page count.

  • Taking bookings

A booking system has to know your real hours and never double-book. On its own it's a £250 add-on, and it's included in Standard.

  • Selling online

A shop means products, stock, payments and order emails. It's a £450 add-on, and it's what usually takes a build into Pro.

  • Who writes the words

We'll draft the words for you to correct at no charge. If you'd rather they were written properly from the start, copywriting is £120.

  • Your logo

If the logo needs a refresh before it goes on a new site, that's £150.

  • Being readable by Google

SEO foundations, £200: titles, structure, speed and your Google Business listing. It isn't a promise of a top ranking, and nobody honest can make you one.

What you pay once it's live

Once it's built, it's yours. If you host it and look after it yourself, the build fee is the only thing you ever pay us. You'll still pay for your domain name and hosting, to whoever you choose.

If you'd rather not think about it, our care plan is £99 a month and your first month is free. That covers hosting, the security certificate, domain renewal, security updates, uptime monitoring, weekly off-site backups, a monthly health check in plain English, and changes whenever you need them. Cancel any time and the site stays yours.

Six questions to ask any web designer before you pay

Do I own it when it's finished?
If the answer involves the word "licence", or the site disappears when you stop paying, you are renting, not buying.
What will I pay every month, and for what?
Hosting, a domain and updates are real costs. Get them listed so nothing turns up later.
Can I see something before I pay?
A mock-up of your own business tells you far more than a portfolio of someone else's.
Who writes the words and supplies the photos?
It's often the thing that holds a site up for weeks. Know up front whose job it is.
Will it work properly on a phone?
Most people find a local business on their phone. Ask to see a live site of theirs on yours.
Can you guarantee me the top of Google?
If they say yes, walk away. Nobody controls Google's results.

See yours before you spend a penny.
